Scheduled downtime

Friday, January 14th, 2005

To all users and peer networks of ub3rgeek.net:
To facilitate the impending move of equiptment from the current 222
Commodore Parkway location to my new home, ub3rgeek.net and all of it’s
servers, networks, clients and offsite VPN links will be shut down after
approximatly 8:00PM EST Friday, January 14th, 2005 (01:00 UTC) and may
not return until Sunday, January 16th, 2005. We apologize for the
inconvenience that this may cause. All services will be unavailable for
that time period and DNS changes will be made to reflect the new Egress
provider (Frontier Communications of Rochester, NY). At this time the
new IP is unknown, but will be forwarded out once known.

Affected Services:
DNS (internal and external, including secondary resolvers, excluding
ub3rgeek.net itself, which is currently hosted offsite.)
HTTP (internal and external)
VPN tunnels to hklocal.net and ice-nine.org
GRE tunnel to test.ub3rgeek.net
SMTP (relay and MX, including secondary MX for gateway.nodeless.net)
FTP (internal and external)
Shout(/ice)cast relays and sources
shell services
internal disk storage services (SMB and NFS)

The Time Warner link will remain at it’s current location and some
services will be made redundant via backup servers that will be left
there, but roll out of that is not expected to predate the actual move
at this time.

Services expected to become redundant upon completion of the backup
datacenter:
DNS (secondary resolvers)
SMTP (secondary, DNS loadbalanced MX and internal relay)
Shout(/ice)cast relays

Any questions or concerns can be voiced to: mernisse@ub3rgeek.net
I apologize for the short notice, unfortunatly it was unavoidable.

Matthew
