*insert cussing here*

Ok, so after like 3 hours of taking apart apollo, ripping fiber channel disks out, installing ide disks, letting the raid-5 array build in the 3-ware bios, dancing happily at the 750GB size of the new array and then staring blankly at the error message “Unit #0 Degraded, removing ID#2 from service” I’ve determined that 1 if not 2 of the Maxtor drives that I purchased are bad.

Ok, Maxtor says they’re still under warranty … excellent… but they want the “diagnostic code” out of their powermax diagnostic software…ok…that only runs under windows.

Great.

So I’m building a windows test rig to run this stupid program to get these damn drives RMA’d.

YAY.

Blah.

In other news, I was a gnat’s asshair away from losing my /home on the server. When I rebooted after pulling the IDE raid array I noticed that the raid-1 layer was puking errors and doing a resync….wtf?? So I tried to mount /home and it gives me nasty errors about “bad superblock” and “unknown filesystem”….not good.

So I let the resynch finish and ran an e2fsck. Well, the final determination was that the journal was hosed, the root directory structure was shot and all was recoverable.

Needless to say, I’m taking time today to fix the backups.
yes.

Oh, I’m in the WoW stress test.
ph33r.
