New laptop goodness…

So I got my Latitude C600 yesterday and the thing is sweet. It’s light, and thin, and gets GREAT battery life. I’m trying to copy the old Linux install from Andromeda to Hermes. I’m having some teething problems with the kernel and X drivers (they don’t like swapping hardware very much it seems).

Hopefully I can get everything squared away before Weds when I get the new 30GB harddrive for the unit….just in time to move the install over to the new drive.

Private link sadness…

So it looks like my point-to-point SDSL link is a total wash unless by some stroke of luck something falls into place. So, I’m probably going to end up doing a VPN tunnel to combine the two networks together, if that happens it will be almost as nifty as the SDSL link, and I’ll have to find something else to do with the shedload of DSL modems that I have laying around at the house.

Anyway, that aside, my new laptop is on it’s way here and will arrive Monday according to UPS’s tracking system. I am hopeful that this will bring a whole new level of geekieness and bordom relief.

More info on project-take-over-the-world (or, building bigger networks through WAN links) as I get it.

More wonderous shows…

I got to see Sister Machine Gun last night. It was a pretty awesome show. SMG had a new drummer with them, and Charles Levi (of Thrill Kill Kult fame) was playing bass, very cool stuff. The show only had about 150 people there, but it had a pretty cool vibe going. I got to talk with Chris and Miguel after the show a bit, and got them to sign my ticket. It’s also worth mentioning that Christ Analogue is pretty neat, tho not as impressive live as I’d hoped, maybe because I couldn’t hear any vocals….at all :( Also opening was Manufactura which is an outstanding solo project that involves alot of sub-harmonics and freaky bass lines. All in all an outstanding show.

That brings the totals to:
Sister Machine Gun – 1
Prick – 1
Pigface – 2
KMFDM – 2
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult – 1
Radiohead – 1
Gravity Kills – 1
Ben Lee – 1
Splashdown – 3
Tori Amos – 1
Moxy Fruvous – 1

I think that’s it… anyway, off to recover and then go see Van Hellsing :)

Harware fun…

I’ve been working on getting my data moved off the temporary 40GB drive onto the fibre channel array to test the array’s stability. There was a loose wire that caused the array to malfunction. I have repaired the problem and am now copying the data over. I will maintain the two seperate filesystems until I can be sure that the fibre channel array is stable.

In other news my ADSL modems should be arriving tomorrow, and my SDSL modems should follow soon after. I’m hoping that everything works out with my DSL plans. Please excuse the mess while I get everything setup and working (hopefully).
