Back to your regularly scheduled maintanance

Wednesday, April 28th, 2004

On Friday during the day from around noon (12:00 EDT) to 5:00PM (17:00 EDT) the webserver/ftp server may be down on and off for some software upgrades and to swap out a faulty disk.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

DSL toys

Wednesday, April 28th, 2004

I’m getting a set of PairGain Megabit Modem 700F’s in the mail sometime this week. I’m going to try and play around with these to see if I can get them to talk with some of the hardware I have laying around the house. If I can find a good combonation of DSL modems that I can run point to point I may end up extending the network to include a friend’s network VIA a xDSL link.
More info as I figure out the feasibility / logistics.

Downtime blues

Thursday, April 8th, 2004

Well, the disk swap did not go nearly as well as I had hoped. The copying got to 109 of 121 GB at about 4am and then the kernel oops’ed. So I had to reboot and start over again. Finally at 5am when the machine oops’ed again I powered it off and went to bed.

Once I woke up at 1:30pm, I powered her back on and finished copying the 13 or so GB that was left. Tonight from midnight (00:00 EDT) to approximatly 2am (02:00 EST) I will be swapping around the physical disk arrangments and re-installing the machine in the rack.

I have high hopes that the problems are behind me and tonight should go smoothly.

see Server Info to see the difference this has made.

Thanks for everyone’s patience.

Scheduled Downtime Alert…

Tuesday, April 6th, 2004

According to UPS tracking, my new 250G harddrive will arrive tomorrow afternoon. So, tomorrow night between midnight (00:00 EDT) and 2′oclock AM (02:00 EDT) there will be some server downtime while I add the 250G harddrive and reconfigure the system.

This should drop disk utilization from 90% to approximatly 60%

Please bear with us while this takes place.

Thank you
